What is Female hair transplants?
Female hairloss can be devasting and unlike men…generally meds are less successful. The key is the quality and quantity of donor hairs available. Women’s hair loss is described using a Ludwig scale…and often times a Ludwig 1 will progress over years or decades to a 2 or 3….thus, realistic planning and preservation of hairs for future need is emphasized.
Female hair tranplants are done just like male hair transplants, however as we shave the recipient area (if shaving is not done, the doctor and techs simply can’t place hairs densely enough to make a difference when grown in…and normal postop shock loss will happen anyway at a month…leaving most of the hairs in the recipient area gone anyway). we often will do HALF of the thin area first, allowing the patient to comb hair over the treated area after a week, and to about life without looking operated upon.
Then, about ¾ of the patients come back and we do the other half a year or so later…but about ¼, feel that the good density we got with the first case allows for a slight change in hairstyle to keep them from having to do a 2nd procedure.
